Dowry scamming woman who married 12 men caught last night with new husband

Last night, Thai police captured the infamous “runaway bride” accused of marrying 12 men in order to con them out of millions of baht worth of dowry money. The twist is that she was already with a new husband.

Jariyaporn Buayai, 32, was arrested in the Sampran district of Nakhon Prathom around 8pm yesterday on five warrants of fraud and embezzlement in five different provinces. These charges actually stem from crimes she committed even before her recent infamous crimes of marrying 12 men and disappearing with their dowry payments.

Jariyaporn has not been charged for marrying the victims in her dowry scam yet but she was detained and questioned at the Crime Suppression Division’s office in Bangkok last night.

Jiraporn used the bank account of another woman, named Soipetch Paleewan, and also went by that woman’s name, in order to accept dowry bank transfers from her recent scam victims. Soipetch, 27, has previously come forward to say that she had nothing to do with Jirayaporn’s love scam, but admitted she knew the suspect and they are related, TNN reported.

Soipetch alleged that Jariyaporn borrowed her ID card to apply for a job in Pattaya, but she refused to return the ID card, which could be used to open a bank account without her knowledge.

Investigators are collecting evidence and police are expected hold a press conference regarding this high-profile dowry scam case today, where more details will be revealed.
