Ahead of Children’s Day on Saturday, a group of Thai children were asked the classic question that we all still ask each other here in the office, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”
The top five occupations they chose were doctor, athlete, chef, engineer and teacher, according to human resource solution company Adecco Thailand.
But while doctor was the most popular choice, some of the kids also favored less traditional jobs such as “YouTuber” and Starbucks barista (wait until they find out how much that pays!).
The survey was completed by 1,546 Thai children, aged between 7 and 14.
When asked why they chose doctor, the kids said they wanted to help people, treat their family and — here’s where it gets real — get rich.
Those who said they want to be a “YouTuber” said it’s because they would love to review products online.
When asked which job they think is the “coolest,” the innocent kids immediately nominated the men in uniform (soldiers and police), while some thought singers and athletes were pretty cool, too.
Some of the young respondents expect to earn THB50,000 to THB1 million a month (current salary for a university graduate starts at THB15,000 so good luck with that, children), but there were those who said that it’s the good deeds they do to the society that count. Awww.
The kids were also asked, “Who’s your idol?”
Mommy and daddy was the most popular answer, followed by their family doctor, footballer Lionel Messi, actress Yaya Urassaya and, of course, junta chief Prayuth Chan-ocha.
Well, that’s awkward.
