Doctor says Thai smartphone addiction can lead to obesity

One Bangkok doctor has told a news station that she believes smartphone addiction by Thais can lead to obesity and other health issues.

Department of Public Health spokeswoman Dr. Phanphimon Wipulakorn said that habitual, long stints of phone usage encourages a sedentary life that can head to being overweight, reported INN News.

She also noted that the word addiction is strong, but that many people are so attached to their phones that they won’t be separated from them for even a few minutes and that separation leads to stress, preoccupation, and signs of sickness.

The doctor went on to note finger issues resulting from too much swiping and neck, back, and shoulder pain from too many hours spent looking down at a small screen.

She suggested more exercise and being parted from phones for some time each day.
