The unnamed doctor who has been accused of fondling 11 factory workers’ breasts during their company’s health checkup earlier this month did not show up to accept the charges and is negotiating with the victims to pay compensation.

His lawyer, Thanadech Srilamul, said yesterday that the 11 workers, of Siam Fukoku factory in Nakhon Ratchasima, demanded THB550,000 in total for the doctor’s alleged inappropriate touching.

Thanadech said the amount was excessive, but if both parties reached an agreement, the case would be settled, The Nation reported.

Previously on Saturday, the doctor failed to show up at the Soong Nern police station to accept the charge of molestation and sent his lawyer to postpone the questioning to Dec. 3, with the excuse that he had to tend to his patients, according to Thai PBS.

The alleged incident occurred on Nov. 17, when eleven female workers accused the doctor of unzipping their uniform tops and touching their breasts. Suspicious of the unusual medical exam, the workers discussed the exams with each other and realized that not all of them had been molested. They determined among themselves that only good-looking ones had been groped.

The employees said that the previous mandatory checkups did not include screening for breast cancer or any kind of breast exam and chest checkups had been done with a stethoscope.

The doctor could face up to ten years in prison and/or a fine of THB20,000 if he does not settle the case and is found guilty.
