DNA of murdered homeless woman found on Myanmar man’s shirt

A Myanmar national, 20, was suspected and is now implicated in the murder of at least three homeless people, who were all killed in similar ways earlier this month.

The suspect, a man identified only as Jimmy, 20, and arrested Friday for the possible murders of three homeless people, has been found to have a shirt with a bloodstain on it. The DNA of the blood matches that of the murdered homeless woman whose body was found Sunday beneath an overpass at Lat Phrao intersection, according to police.

Police have contacted the relatives of the slain woman, Rampa Panjapolvejpisit, 58.

Her autopsy revealed that she died after a blunt weapon was used to smash her skull, according to Pol. Col. Dr. Pornchai Sutheerakune, head of the Institute of Forensic Medicine at Police General Hospital, reported The Nation.

She also had other wounds but he was unsure what caused them as the body had begun decomposing. Police believe she had already been dead for four to six days before they discovered her. They are also checking the slain woman’s DNA to see if she appears in the police database.

Police are also trying to link the death of the homeless woman to Jimmy as images of him riding a bicycle in the area where she was found in the early hours of last Thursday were captured on a security camera.

DNA tests performed on other bloodstains found on the suspects clothing also show connections to two other victims. Police are collecting more forensic evidence, including fingerprints on an umbrella that was near the dead woman’s body.

Officers are also investigating whether Jimmy could have been responsible for the death of newspaper seller Wanchai Noimontree, 56, who died of stabbing Sept. 5 at a park in Phaya Thai.

Jimmy has denied the charges but the police are convinced that he is the killer due to the bloodstains and that all the bodies were bound in the same manner.
