DIY Dentist: Cringeworthy clip of schoolboy giving braces to friends goes viral (VIDEO)

Unsurprisingly, a short video in which one Thai schoolboy gives two other kids homemade braces is being criticized online.

That’s right. He’s adjusting metal in their mouths like a pint-sized DIY dentist.

While some might admire the boy’s entrepreneurial spirit, most watchers implore the dainty dentist’s parents to stop him from performing any more homemade orthodontia.

The 10-minute video has been viewed 459,000 times since Monday.

In it, our young “dentist, working from a corrugated metal shack and wearing a sterile mask, adjusts the braces of two patients. At one point, his “cameraman” puts his hand in front of the phone camera and gives watchers the finger.

The dentist appears to be about 10 years old, while his two “patients,” a girl and a boy, appear to be about eight. Another girl in a school uniform watches the proceedings.

Facebook users worried about the self-styled orthodontist’s skill, the cleanliness of the equipment, and the danger of letting underage, untrained people perform medical procedures.

Braces are a fashion trend in many Asian countries, with fans of the look saying that they make wearers look younger and cuter. In less affluent social circles, they are also seen as a status symbol since orthodontics are quite pricy.

Due to this, “fake” braces or those fitted by untrained technicians in streetside stalls, have become commonplace. However, this is the youngest “technician” we’ve ever seen.
