The deadly collapse of a university hospital contruction site which killed 11 people Tuesday was not the fault of its builder or design, engineers said.
An examination by the Engineering Institute of Thailand concluded the accident was caused when a concrete beam connecting two buildings fell about 30 meters onto a group of workers eating lunch. They said construction at the site by the Italian-Thai Development PLC was up to code. The accident might have been caused by imbalance or something falling, according to EIT secretary-general Siriwat Chaichana.
The site at Mahidol University’s Ramathibodi Hospital is supervised by ACSE 110 Consortium, Bangkok Post reported.
