The Department of Disease Control has revealed that the death toll from this year’s dengue fever outbreak has risen to five people, as the disease continues to spread across Thailand’s Isaan region.
According to reports, a total of 5,406 people from Nakornratchasrima, Chaiyapoom, Buriram and Surin have come down with dengue as of last count. A majority of the victims were students and young adults aged between 14 and 24 years old.
The deaths on the other hand came from Surin (3) and Nakornratchasrima (2). Health officials said the current numbers predict that another wave of outbreaks will take place next season. The public is being reminded to inspect and keep their surroundings clean. Water containers should be kept closed at all times and possible breeding places of dengue-bearing mosquitoes should be destroyed.
