A Move Forward MP accused of beating a woman he was romantically involved with apologized today for his actions.
In a statement, Sirin Sanguansin has said that he had reached out to the 26-year-old woman who filed a complaint against him for punching her in the face.
“First and foremost, I would like to apologize to everyone involved in the event and to the general public for the delayed disclosure of the true facts regarding the incident. Due to a minor accident resulting in a head injury, I spent the past two days receiving medical treatment,” he said in the statement posted to Twitter.
While he did not go so far as to issue a full confession, Sirin said he deeply regrets his actions and would like to apologize to the complainant. He said he’s willing to submit to the legal process and investigation brought forth by his party. He said he will accept the consequences that arise from his actions.
“I deeply regret and sincerely apologize to everyone involved in this incident,” he said.
In the 26-year-old woman’s complaint filed with police at the Bo Win station in Chonburi province, she said she was assaulted by Sirin, whom she had been seeing for about a month. She alleged that the assault left bruises across her body and face. She also shared a picture of a police station with a caption reading “If you dare to do it, then you will face the consequences.”
The woman said the 27-year-old MP picked her up at the Pattana Golf Club & Resort and helped load her bags into his car. After driving for awhile, she said the MP punched her in the face. Then, she said he stopped the car and dragged her out of the vehicle.
Move Forward representatives said Wednesday that they were taking the allegations seriously.
“Regarding the case of the MP being accused of physical assault, the party considers the incident to be a serious matter,” it said in a statement posted online. “The party has contacted the complainant for further information and will expedite the case for consideration by the party’s disciplinary committee as soon as possible.”
