Death toll of Ayutthaya boat collision rises to 26

The death toll has risen to 26 people in the case of the boat sinking in Ayutthaya. Authorities are still searching for three missing people.

As of this morning, the search team of a hundred men had still not found the remaining three missing persons: 89-year-old woman Thongbai Kantharalak and two boys, Apinan Sangkam, 2, and Apilak Boonyarak, 3.

Over 40 people were injured in the accident while 11 still need close monitoring.

The boat carried about 100 Thai Muslim pilgrims when it collided with a concrete pillar under the water near Wat Sanam Chai in Ayutthaya on Sunday afternoon.

The boat driver has been charged with driving with an expired license, overloading and carelessness which led to injury or death of others. He was denied bail.

The boat’s owner may also face charges since the boat has no insurance coverage for passengers, Thai PBS reported.
