The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission has revealed that 3.6 million unregistered mobile phone users will receive a text message to warn them that their number will be terminated on Oct 1.

NBTC secretary general Takorn Tantasith said mobile service carriers are required by law to notify mobile phone users by text message that their number will be deleted 30 days before the deadline.

The NBTC has ordered the carriers to send the text message to unregistered users before Sept 1.

Unregistered numbers can only receive calls and dial emergency service numbers, while making normal calls and internet access will be disabled.

The NBTC Secretary-General has said that carriers and service providers who fail to comply to the order will face penalties according to the NBTC regulations, reported NNT.
