David Miller, 24, was killed alongside Hannah Witheridge on the holiday island of Koh Tao in Sept. 2015.

David Miller’s parents made a statement today to English broadcasting company ITV. On the day that the verdict for two Myanmar men was upheld as guilty for the killing of Miller and Hannah Witheridge on Koh Tao in 2015, they are sure that the officials “made the correct decision” in court today.

The two Myanmar nationals in question, Zaw Lin and Wai Phyo, were convicted of Miller’s murder and Witheridge’s rape and murder.

The Miller family wants the two men to reflect on their crime from jail and believes that the court has found the correct killers.

However, the family has asked the court to not hand down the harshest sentence.

They said: “We have lost our son David forever and the Witheridge family will have been similarly devastated by this crime. There is not a day that goes by in our home without pain, feelings of loss and utter sadness. We are proud of our son and what he achieved in his short life. We miss him terribly and miss his hugs, beaming smiles and infectious enthusiasm. His life was cruelly destroyed.”
