Date set: MRT Purple Line to open Aug. 6

A section of the MRT Purple Line is set to officially open on Aug. 6, even though the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) is still trying to find a solution to link the route to the operating Blue Line.

The Purple Line begins at Taopoon station in Bang Sue district and goes up north to Bangyai district in Nonthaburi, spanning a total of 23 kilometers.

Although its terminal station Taopoon is one kilometer away from Bang Sue station, they are currently not linked, MThai reported.

As the line from Taopoon to Bang Yai is set to launch soon, the MRTA will temporarily solve the problem by asking the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority to offer a shuttle bus between the two stations. #Fail

The as yet unbuilt link between the two stations is likely to be included in the project to extend the MRT Blue Line from Bang Sue to Tha Phra. The extension is scheduled to open in 2019.

The complete section of Purple Line composes of 16 elevated stations and will stop at key landmarks including the Ministry of Public Health, Siam Cement Group, and the new mega mall Central Westgate.
