Cyclists, pedestrians annoyed by BMA’s new billboards

It seems as if bike lanes and footpaths in Bangkok will never serve their purpose.

To the annoyance of many pedestrians and cyclists, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has recently erected street-level billboards in the middle of bike lanes and pavements throughout the capital.

Splashed across these these billboards is the city’s new slogan:  “As built by deities, the administrative center, dazzling palaces and temples, the capital of Thailand.”

A photo of one such billboard on Srinakarin Road was posted on the activist Facebook page, Khonanurak, where netizens demanded that the BMA remove the obstructive ad.

A similar conversation is also taking place on the popular online forum Pantip.com, where a Lat Phrao resident questioned the wisdom of erecting 2.5×1 meter banners in front of Lat Phrao Road bus stops. The banners, critics say, prevent bus riders from seeing oncoming buses.
