Sex toys and hentai (pornographic) comics have been placed in the same bracket as ivory on the list of items prohibited from being shipped into Thailand, the Customs Department said this morning.
Director Prayuth Maneechotri said the department has dealt with 18 cases of illegal ivory imports and 80 cases involving sex products since Oct. 2013.
The combined value of the items exceeded THB500,000.
Prayuth said ivory products are mainly imported from Africa and traders frequently change their address to avoid detection.
Other prohibited items include electronic cigarettes, shisha, and poppers.
The Customs Department is considering whether the ivory should be destroyed, sent back or used as evidence to try and prosecute the traders.
However, they did not say what they plan to do with all the sex toy, Manager reported.
