Perched on the top floor of the swanky Emporium shopping mall is a lofty space for lofty ideas. Thailand Creative and Design Center (TCDC) is a big part of Bangkok’s creative community, facilitating connections and supporting partnerships among designers and businesses.
TCDC’s largest annual event, Creativity Unfolds: Bangkok Creative Festival, takes place in July – September every year. Thirty-nine workshops are held across Bangkok and Chiangmai, including the Creative Space Workshop, a month long meeting of Thailand’s top entrepreneurs and designers.
At last year’s event, Kittiratana Pitipanich, Director of Design and Creative Business Development, told the crowd of enthusiastic designers that “the objective of Creativities Unfold is to remind the people that the future is actually now…[and] to turn their dream into a successful business model.”
Nine visionaries came from around the world to inspire the Thai attendees at the event. Porter Erisman, Director and Producer of Crocodile in the Yangtze and former VP at Alibaba and Gadi Amit, Founder and Principal Designer at New Deal Design both took part in talks and workshops. The tech scene was represented by Nicholas Fenton, Data Visualization Specialist and Former Lead Designer at Facebook Timeline.
Music, tech and innovation combined at the presentation (or performance?) by Nobumichi Tosa, Musician and Founder of Maywa Denki. Part mad scientist, part rock star, and seriously entertaining, he formed the art unit Maywa Denki, along with his older brother, Masamichi in 1993. Together they create mechanical instruments and put on unique shows and workshops around the world about music, creativity, and mechanical design.
