Court sends 8 cops convicted of robbing, raping woman to prison

Eight police officers found guilty of robbing and raping a woman are going to jail for a long time.

Former border patrol Police Capt. Nat chonnithivanich received a 22-year sentence in criminal court yesterday for detaining a woman under false pretense, stealing THB9,000, confining and subsequently raping her.

The court handed down 12-year sentences for robbery to his seven former colleagues: L-Cpl. Rungroj Kretju, Cpl. Neramit Jatumit, Sgt. Maj. Chavalit Sumon, L-Cpl. Akom Sudchai, Sgt. Maj. Manop Sukkongmit, L-Cpl. Akradej Kochakrit, and Chatree Pankarung.

The officers had been members of the 42nd Border Patrol Police Unit and claimed to be performing drug interdiction duties when the crime occured in the Lad Phrao and Phaya Thai districts of Bangkok, Bangkok Post reported.
