Countdown: 10 places to spend New Year’s Eve in Bangkok

It’s no secret Bangkok is unique for its nightlife and hot parties that last until dawn. So why get out of town and cram in with thousands of Thais on Doi Inthanon, when you can have it all right here and enjoy Bangkok when it has the least traffic.

With that being said, check out your choices for NYE, from the underground scene to popular Thai countdown places – whether you want to endear yourself to the lovely locals or escape them.

1) CentralWorld
Ratchaprasong junction, 6:20pm – 12pm

CentralWorld is the most popular place among locals to spend New Year’s Eve, and it is gearing up for the celebration this year by holding special Thai Fight matches.

Besides traditional fireworks and music, Sudsakorn and Teng Neung will battle it out, while other local and international fighters including Victor, Saiyok, Iquezang, Saenchai and Payak Samui will also feature.

The show takes place between 6:20pm and 10pm in front of Central World. Admission is free. 

As well as the matches, live music from artists such as Off Pongsak, Bodyslam, The Star 11 and James Jirayu will count down to the new year.

2) Maggie Choo’s
Silom road, 9pm

Bangkok’s favorite blonde and artist Gene Kasidit will become one of your highlights in 2015 with a New Year’s Eve performance that guarantees you a night of glamour, glitter and glee.

As the clock inches towards midnight, Gene will perform an electro-jazz performance in her out-of-the-world fashion with a full back-up band. Once it’s midnight, Gene will hit the dancefloor with Maggie Choo’s full-on club set and dancers.

Entrance is THB800 with one glass of Chandon Brut. Tables can be reserved via email, starting from THB6,000.

3) The Deck
Arun Residence Hotel, 5pm – 1amThe Deck, Bangkok
The Deck bar and restaurant at Arun Residence hotel is right across from Wat Arun, which is the country’s landmark this year selected to host the biggest New Year’s Eve celebration.

Sit back and watch Wat Arun as it lights up with more than 5,500 fireworks when the clock strikes 12.

Tickets are pre-sold and can be bought at the door for THB1,500, which includes two drinks.

4) Dark Bar 
Ekkamai 10, 9pm
Kontraband night at Dark Bar

DJ community Kontraband will collaborate with Digital to ring in the New Year with drum n’ bass at Dark Bar, the tiny dream venue for after parties, which will also celebrate its first anniversary on the same night.

As this is a two-in-one party, it will go on as late as you can manage without falling down from exhaustion.

The lineup includes Digital, DeLorean, Azek, and Will. Admission is THB200 with one Absolute vodka shot.

5) GLOW
Sukhumvit 23, 10pm

GLOW, the little long-running underground pub that’s always packed with partiers, will host a New Year’s Eve event with house and techno beats until sunrise, featuring superstar DJ Andre Crom.

Andre, acclaimed Berlin producer and OFF Recordings label boss, will bring his DJ sets that have already thrilled audiences all over the world to our home at GLOW. His eclectic sound selection smoothly moves from underground pop and dance classics, over groove tools, to primetime dance floor bombs.

Andre will also be supported by the local titans Felix Moreno, The Outsider and Krit Morton.

The party will run from 10pm until 6am on New Year’s Day. Entrance fee is THB300 before midnight and THB400 afterwards, with one drink included.

6) Whiteline
Silom 8, 1am

Don’t just count down to the new year and hit the sack: head to Whiteline and party until the first sunrise of 2016.

Whiteline, the underground music venue in Silom, will host an after-countdown party from 1am until dawn. The lineups include familiar faces like DJ Dragon, Gramaphone Children, David Fostier and Sun.

Entry is THB250 with one free drink.

7) Above 11
Sukhumvit 11, 10pm

There is nothing better than looking down at slow-moving traffic and crowd of partiers while you enjoy the breeze from the 32nd floor, with a drink in hand.

Above Eleven, the rooftop bar with panoramic views of Bangkok, will step away from its usual lounge music and set on fire the dancefloor (or spaces between tables) with drum n’ bass DJ Delorean, Luck-E and Deloin

Rooftop bars don’t come cheap on New Year’s Eve, but with the THB2,000 entrance fee that comes with two free drinks, Above Eleven may be one of the most affordable places to go in Bangkok.

8) Black Pagoda
Patpong 2, 10pm
Disco Robot party at Black Pagoda
Disco Robot will get down and dirty on New Year’s Eve at Black Pagoda, Patpong’s entertainment institute that exists in the grey area between nightclub and go-go bar.

The lineup includes local DJ guests including Harrington, Jaydubb, and our favorite Chote who will throw their sick beats until sunrise.

Admission is free before midnight. If you’re late, pay up THB300, but that comes with one free drink.

9) Ku Dé Ta 
Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra road, 8pm

Get ready to be whisked away from the heat of Bangkok to a Winter Wonderland as Ku Dé Ta hosts a chill New Year’s Eve party.

Look as pure as the driven snow as the dress code recommends you wear white, and gentlemen are expected to smarten up and ditch the shorts, sandals and sleeveless shirts.

Ladies get free entrance until 10pm, and if you get there early you might be able to grab a free glass of Moët & Chandon which the club is offering to the first 200 guests.

Bring your ID too as you must be 20 or over to party.

10) Asiatique
Charoenkrung road, 5pm

Another popular place among locals is Asiatique, a open-air mall popular for chilling and dining. It will host a countdown party with a big concert by the Chao Phraya river and its famous Ferris Wheel.

Bring your date to dinner and have a private NYE moment on the Ferris Wheel. Then come down to join the big party and count down to 2016 with DJ battles between Roxy June and Zara Gift, as well as live music from various Thai artists including Slot Machine, Zani, Hunz and Kang The Star, and The Voice artists.
