Coronation Freebie: Ride the BTS free all Sunday

Like free stuff? No? We’re gonna tell you about some anyway.

Commuters will be able to ride the BTS Skytrain and rapid transit bus systems free Sunday for King Rama X’s coronation ceremony.

The Skytrain operator announced yesterday that all BTS lines would go free 6am to midnight. Passengers can pick up free tickets at any BTS station while those using Rabbit cards can swipe as normal without being charged.

On Saturday and Monday, fares won’t be assessed for travel past BTS On Nut or BTS Bang Wa.

The goal is to help people travel to see 66-year-old King Vajiralongkorn coronated in a ceremony steeped in pomp and tradition, said Surapong Laoha-Unya, chief operating officer of Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Co. Ltd.

The ceremony is set to take place at various palaces around the Phra Nakhon district.

So whether you’re going to get a glimpse or always wondered what BTS Keha looks like, the BTS is there for you this weekend.
