Cops nab bank employee over THB40 million fraud

A bank employee has been arrested over allegedly forging ATM cards of customers and stealing THB40 million from their accounts.

Direk Kaewchucherd, 50, a TMB Bank employee, was arrested yesterday in Bang Khen district, according to Thai PBS.

Police seized six ATM cards and THB20,000 in cash from the suspect, the Nation reported.

Police said he had worked at the bank for over 10 years, and used customer information to create counterfeit ATM cards that he would use to take money out of their accounts.

Most of the victims were foreigners spending a lot of money who rarely checked their accounts, police said.

A source said the fraud had been going on for four years and that Direk had stolen THB40 million in total, the Nation reported.
