The Office of Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) yesterday met with the two giant cinema operators SF Cinema City and Major Cineplex Group to discuss many pricing issues in cinemas as well as measures to ensure fair pricing for moviegoers.
Jirachai Moonthongroi, the OCPB’s secretary, said that complaints theatergoers had submitted to him involved overcharging, double pricing, expensive snack and drink prices, lengthy advertisement showtimes and unhealthy cinema environments.
The OCPB will conduct the cost-benefit analysis of the cinema business and the ratio of advertisement per movie showings before announcing the results. According to Matichon, the price per capita of movie tickets in Thailand is the third-highest in the world.
