A construction company insists it has compensated the family of a worker killed downtown despite initial complaints from his girlfriend.
Days after the death of an unnamed worker in a crane fall at a Thonglor work site, Visavapat Co. Ltd. said it had in fact paid an undisclosed sum to his family after the woman turned to TikTok to accuse it of doing nothing.
The company denied that in a statement, saying it took the workers injured at the site of the future Marche shopping mall to a nearby hospital and was willing to accept responsibility.
“The company expressed its deepest condolences on this loss,” its statement said. “This employee was competent, diligent, and had a high level of responsibility admired by supervisors and coworkers alike.”
The man died on Jan. 7 after a crane fell on him at the location across from Soi Thonglor 5. Soon after, #JobSiteNearBTSThonglor began trending online after TikTok user Narisara0624 accused the company of a cover up.
In the now-deleted post, she had accused the company of trying to keep the matter confidential and not reaching out to the relatives of the deceased. Friends said flowers left at the site quickly disappeared.
The company said it will continue to help the family of the deceased with hospital bills and funeral costs. Reached by phone Monday, a Visavapat representative said the company would not discuss the matter.
Narisara0624 said it was her decision to delete the clip.
“I am unclear on the details of the investigation, and after this story went viral, I have decided to remove the clip,” she wrote in a recent update.

“The company could sue you for defamation, I’m worried for you,” another wrote.
