A popular new web comic featuring a cross-species relationship could either make you happy or angry about your own relationship status.
Along with creating a lot of resentment for the happy couple at its center, a comic you might have seen zoom through your feed of a boy and his pretty, bear girlfriend has become hugely popular in just two months, with 613,000 likes since April.
“Bear Girlfriend” focuses on the relationship between a regular guy and his, well, bear girlfriend, which stands in for the stereotype, overly-emotional girlfriend.
The breakout comic’s popularity has even grown larger than previous indie comic darling Jay the Rabbit.
The comic is the work of Kasidit “Bom” Prasit and the strips are inspired by his real-life relationship with girlfriend Kotchachonlakorn “Dream” Taveepan.
But why a bear?
In a recent interview, Dream said she was well-known among her friends as a “bear” due to her chubbiness.
University students Dream and Bom met each other through the BeeTalk chat app. Bom’s curiosity about whether other couples have the same up-and-down relationships inspired him to narrate his relationship to an online audience through his drawings.
For those who are already attached, share the cartoon with your sweetheart. For singles, check out the strips to feel a little heartburn.
Bear: Hmm, I look fat.
Boyfriend: Yes.
Bear: I didn’t ask you!

Bear: My ex and I used to go to that restaurant.
Boyfriend: Aha. Well, my ex…
Bear: Oh, you wanna talk about her? Go back to her and be together!

Boyfriend: It’s Friday night! I’m gonna hang out with friends.
Bear: Junta’s curfew tonight. Yeahhhh! You’re not going anywhere.

“Work is important, but you’re even more important.”

“It’s hot, I don’t need a blanket.”
