The Coconuts Boat Party Survival Guide

The most practiced party connoisseurs will tell you what a fine art there is to attending a boat party. As far as soirees go, the boat party can be likened to Russian Roulette – if it’s a good, you’re dancing all night on the deck. If it sucks, well you’re stuck in the middle of nowhere, dammit.

However, the latest installment of the Bangkok Boat Party on July 13 looks to be very promising. For the first time, the crew is teaming up with Phatfunk to break down drum and bass beats while cruising right along the Chao Phraya River. So to get you in the spirit of sailing away, here’s our guide to making any boat party a raging success.

DON’T BE LATE

We may be in Thailand, but this is one meeting where you’ll want to strictly be on time. The Phatfunk boat starts boarding at 9pm at Saphan Taksin Pier, right outside the BTS station of the same name. It takes off at 10pm sharp, with or without you, party animal. So if you’re running late, forget the pirate hat and eye patch at home.

DRESS IT DOWN

This is a drum and bass affair, so we don’t know why you’d wear anything other then dancing sneakers and ripped-up jeans, anyway. But just to re-inform, this isn’t the classy dinner cruise your parents took when they came to visit you that one time in Bangkok. It’s best to anticipate becoming a sweaty mess at any boat party, since the best moments are always spent on the top deck, right under the stars. Think comfy and cool attire for boogying down.

BRING YOUR POSSE

For those of you who like fly solo at social outings, you may want to consider getting a wingman for this one. That’s not to say a boat party isn’t a good place to make new acquaintances – let’s face it, people who are up for listening to drum and bass on the Chao Phraya have an increased likelihood of being cool by default. But since a boat party is at least a four-hour cruise commitment, why not have your most hilarious and outrageous friends with you to partake? If the rest of the company is a dud, at least you can get drunk together.

WEATHER OR NOT

Since the tide is at the mercy of Mother Nature, it’s best to check the forecast before such an excursion. We’re also smack-dab in the middle of rainy season, so a light shower isn’t totally out of the question. Luckily, the Phatfunk boat is ready to take on any bad weather. The top deck will be fully waterproofed and there’s also an indoor bar and lounge area on the lower level.

ALWAYS AFTER-PARTY

Word on the street is that this boat party will wrap up at 2am, where the festivities will then continued at a secret location. Thou must always after-party. Always, always after-party.
