Cobra Gold: Thailand, US to host military training exercise

Thailand and the United States will co-host a multilateral military training exercise codenamed “Cobra Gold” which they say will promote international cooperation and enhance stability in the region.

It will be the 35th training session of Cobra Gold, which is one of the largest annual multilateral military exercises in the Asia-Pacific region. Over 24 countries will participate.

One of the key goals this year is to improve the performance of participants in complex multilateral operations, including anti-piracy efforts and providing humanitarian aid and disaster relief.

The exercise will be held from Feb. 9 – 19 and will include coaching medics, carrying out humanitarian and social projects in Thai communities, and field training to promote regional partnerships, state media reported.
