CLASSIC VIDEO: Announcement of university test results 26 years ago

Before the Internet becomes the main medium for students to check their test results, Thailand used to broadcast all the names of applicants and the universities to which they were accepted on TV.

The classic moment shown below in the video clips happened in 1987, or 26 years ago. The announcement of 18,122 successful test takers started at 12am right after the end of a late night news program. It ran only once and lasted three hours, each frame showing eight names arranged by the seat number of test takers in ascending order.

As classic as it is cool, the YouTube videos have been widely re-shared in the Thai internet community. The old films both stir up nostalgia among middle-aged viewers and excite teen adults who tried to point out their parents’ names.
