Ending a 15-day run of no confirmed COVID-19 deaths, health officials today announced that a woman has died of the disease in Chumphon province.

The 56 year-old woman died Sunday over a month after she was found to have contracted the virus on April 14. Two new infections were also reported today.

One of the newly infected was a 46-year-old Chinese woman who came into contact with an Italian patient in Phuket. Another was a 55-year-old female masseuse back from Russia who tested positive at a government quarantine facility. Neither showed symptoms.

The official count stands at 3,042 infections and 57 deaths since the outbreak began in January.

COVID task force spokesman Taweeslip Wisanuyothin warned about a fake “Thailand Wins” app making the rounds. After initially describing the government-tracking system as an app, he said users should be careful which site they are directed to.

“It has to be Thaichana.com not Thaichana.pro or Thaichana.asia,” he said. “The fake website will send you a link to download an app as well. Thailand Wins is a web platform, you can use it without having to download an app.”

The task force confirmed that for now, the platform still cannot update users by SMS of any potential health risks, so those receiving SMS messages purportedly from the app should be suspicious as they are likely fake.
