Chulalongkorn University took 45th place on the list of 350 top Asian universities released by London education consultancy Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) yesterday.
In the QS ranking, which is regarded as one of the most influential university rankings in the world, Chulalongkorn took a prestigious spot (#45). The other Thai universities on the list are: Mahidol University (#61), Thammasat University (#101), Chiang Mai University (#104), Kasetsart University (#129). King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (#161), Khon Kaen University (#165) and Prince of Songkla University (#185).
The National University of Singapore (NUS) took first place, followed by University of Hong Kong in second position and Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University in third place.
The schools are rated in nine categories: academic reputation (30 percent), employer reputation (20 percent), faculty/student ratio (15 percent), citations per paper (10 percent), papers per faculty (10 percent), staff with PhDs (5 percent), proportion of international faculty (2.5 percent). proportion of international students (2.5 percent), proportion of inbound exchange students (2.5 percent) and proportion of outbound exchange students (2.5 percent), according to The Nation.
QS expanded their Asian universities list to include 350 of the best universities, which is 50 more than last year. It’s also added a rating for “PhD holders among staff” to try and provide a fuller picture of these high-achieving educational institutions.
