A Chinese man was charged with both overstaying his visa and causing major damage when he was allegedly caught throwing bricks at cars from a Bangkok overpass, damaging at least two vehicles.

Liu Zhihong, 50, was taken into custody yesterday by Lumpini police officers. When they apprehended him for brick-throwing, they found he already owed a compensation fee for doing the same activity in Taling Chan, another Bangkok neighborhood, reported The Nation.

The city’s highest ranking officer, Metropolitan police chief Pol. Lt. Gen. Sanit Mahathavorn, interviewed Zhihong himself this morning.

Zhihong admitted to throwing bricks at cars from an overhead walkway near Pinklao Bridge on Aug. 17 and hitting two vehicles. After being arrested that day and paying THB5,000 to a car owner for damage, he was released on bail.

The next day, the second victim, Sakhon Chantha, came forward requesting THB20,000 for damage to his truck. Zhihong said he didn’t have enough money to pay the compensation.

Police released him anyway and he was not seen until he was re-arrested yesterday and had, by that time, overstayed his visa.

The man claimed he heard voices in his head, telling him to throw the bricks and police said they would send him for psychiatric evaluation.
