Chief of police will face investigation

Metropolitan Police Bureau Chief, Khamronwit Thoopkrachang, has agreed to participate fully with the Royal Thai Police Office (RTPO) in the investigation of his involvement with former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

When the current Bangkok Chief of police was awarded the honor of Lieutenant General he selected Thaksin to decorate his promotion. According to Chief Khamronwit he had no ill intentions when he requested the now-shunned former Prime Minister.

Since, the Chief’s actions have received public scorn and subsequently reflect poorly on the police force image. His choice of Thaksin has been viewed as inappropriate and damaging.

Thaksin was convicted in 2008 and sentenced to prison for two years.

Under suspicion of corrupt intentions the Green Politics Groups reported the issue to The Ombudsman who will now act as an investigative body during this examination. All findings will be forwarded to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC).

In the Police Chief’s defense, he claims that he did not act with dishonest intentions. He requested Thaksin to decorate him with the police insignia out of admiration and love for the former Prime Minister.

Chief Khamronwit stated that, “if the NACC resolves I am wrong and need to resign, I will be please to do it.” With 14 months remaining until retirement he plans to devote the remainder of his life to healing the sick with traditional Thai medicine, as reported by the Bangkok Post.
