Nine tourists in Chiang Mai were injured after being trampled by a rampaging elephant on a night safari.
Lamduan the elephant was taking part in the parade on Saturday night for the first time when he suddenly ran into the crowd. Zoo officials believe he may have been startled by a camera flash or other animals.
Four of the tourists were seriously hurt and had to be treated for injuries ranging from back pain to broken bones in their feet, according to The Nation.
The Chiang Mai Night Safari said it will cover medical expenses for all those injured. It has also put up extra barriers on the parade route and has temporarily banned elephants from the show.
Lamduan was also treated for wounds he sustained after crashing into a cement barrier.
