Mr. Pairoj Sanpa, a Channel 7 news journalist, was placed under protective police security after he received death threats late last week. A meth smuggling gang named “Mac Korlai,” with deep connections in the Banbueng area in Chonburi, supposedly issued the threats to Mr. Pairoj. Police believed that Mr. Pairoj was issued the death threat because the gang thinks that he was a police spy.
After being threatened with the possibility that a hitman will be sent out to kill him, Pairoj informed Police Major General Katcha Thatusar of the incident. The police placed Mr. Pairoj and his family under protection. Mr. Pairoj has been helping the police for several years.
In some instances, police have used Mr. Pairoj’s car in gathering evidence against criminals.
In 2010, the veteran news journalist survived an attempt on his life, the Pattaya Daily News reported.
