A new family dynasty now sits atop the kingdom’s list of wealthiest portfolios.
None other than the Chirathivats, who own the multi-billion baht Central Group, have unseated the 14-year champion founders of Channel 3, the Maleenon family, according to Money & Banking Online and Chulalongkorn University, which revealed the rankings of the richest stock-holding families of 2013 on Friday.
The Chirathivat family climbed up from second place, leading the troop of 31 heirs who hold a total of THB66.8 billion in stocks, up 26 billion over last year due to a doubling of value in their Centara Hotel holdings.
The second place goes to the Maleenon family, with holdings of THB42.1 billion and year earnings of THB15 billion.
The Prasatthong-Osoth family, owners of Bangkok Dusit Medical Services, is ranked third with just over THB42 billion in stocks while the primary shareholder of the company, the Tongtang family, comes in fifth place.
The landlords of Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani also made the cut. The Kanjanapas family is ranked fourth, owning THB41.3 billion in stocks.
