Five cell phones stuffed into (what we truly hope are) unused condoms were found in a toilet at a Bangkok university exam hall yesterday where a competitive exam for positions in the Department of Corrections was scheduled to take place today.

Officials made the discovery as they preparing the hall at Suan Dusit University in Bangkok’s Dusit district. They believe the cell phones were intended to be used to cheat on the exam. We tend to agree as pretty much nothing else would make sense here.

Of the 3,895 test-takers, 165 will be selected for five positions, department director-general Pol. Col. Narat Sawatanan said at a press conference that followed the discovery, Khaosod reported.

After the phones were found in the toilet’s water tank, Narat ordered a complete sweep of the building, increased surveillance, and security checks for every test taker. He even had the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) police cut off cell phone signals in the testing area.

Out-of-uniform staff will also survey the examination hall to ensure no other problems occur during the process.

The Department of Corrections, an agency of the Ministry of Justice, is responsible for staffing the nation’s prisons with guards and other staff.

Looks like a few test-takers have been watching too many prison movies.

Correction: An earlier version of this story said five people will be selected when actually five positions are available for 165 people.
