Newly obtained Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) footage is casting high-profile rape charges against a Thong Lor police officer in a different light.
Footage obtained from cameras in the building in which the officer allegedly raped a Laotian worker show a story different from that put forth by the purported victim. The footage shows the Laotian worker walking into the apartment with ease, hands filled with plastic bags as she leisurely follows the accused police officer.
Late last month, Pol Sub Lt Thatree Suebsamarn, a deputy inspector at the Thong Lor police station, was suspended from civil duties following the rape charge. The Laotian teenager earlier told police that Thatree handcuffed and raped her in the apartment on the night of April 20.
The new evidence, however, contradicts her prior testimony in many respects. The apartment at which the incident took place is in fact under the jurisdiction of the Bangna police station in Bangkok, not in Samut Prakan. The friendly interaction between Thatree and the Laotian native has led police to renew the investigation, including the re-interrogation of the accuser.
