The Tourism Authority of Thailand has revealed that domestic tourism slowed down in the first half of this year.
TAT deputy governor, Anupharp Thirarath, blames the decline on cautious spending by tourists.
Domestic tourism dropped by 2-3 percent.
In a bid to try and remedy the situation, the TAT plans to cooperate with hotel operators, tourism agencies, low-cost airlines and other businesses to launch promotional campaigns for the fourth quarter.
Low-cost airlines will roll out tour packages at special prices . The campaign is expected to start in October.
The TAT is aiming for THB800 billion in tourism earnings this year, reported Thai PBS.
