Cause of mass stingray deaths in Mae Klong River awaiting lab results

After twenty dead stingrays were discovered floating in the Mae Klong River last week, officials are investigating the reasons for the mass deaths and lab results from the river’s water will be revealed tomorrow.

Thankfully, no further stingray deaths have been reported. The most recent incident was the beaching of one stingray at Nam Wat Pier on Saturday.

Authorities from the Samut Songkhram Marine and Coastal Resources Research and Development Center have measured pH levels in the water of 7.41, a bit lower than the standard reading of 7.5.

The Director-General of the Pollution Control Department visited Samut Songkhram today to investigate the cause of death and discuss various solutions with the governor, National News Bureau of Thailand reported.
