‘Cat-strangling’ boyfriend will be charged with animal cruelty

The man who filmed himself allegedly strangling a cat will be charged with animal cruelty, police said.

Police in Kanchanaburi’s Tha Muang district said they had asked the man, identified only as Oak, to report to the police station where he will face charges, Thai PBS reported.

Animal rights organization Watchdog Thailand had helped the man’s girlfriend file a police complaint against Oak after he posted the video clip online, apparently in frustration after she had ignored his phone calls.

Rescue volunteers removed the cat and two others at Oak’s apartment. His girlfriend, who lives in Bangkok, said she had left the cats with him because her apartment did not allow cats.

Watchdog Thailand posted cute pictures of the cats in its care on its Facebook page.

It added that the girlfriend had decided not to reclaim the cats, but luckily their former owner whom she had originally adopted the trio from felt sorry for the furry felines and volunteered to take them back.
