A couple, who just got married on Sunday, said their Chonburi home was broken into and the thief allegedly stole all of the cash envelopes they received as gifts from wedding guests.

The husband and wife, Jirayuth Kiewpan and Chalarak Siwarak, told police that all of the sealed cash envelopes, which they estimated to be valued at THB200,000, were stolen from their closet yesterday.

Arunee Sirilak, Jirayuth’s mother, said she was looking after the house as the couple went to celebrate with Chalarak’s family in Samut Prakarn, but Arunee was sleeping when the burglar allegedly broke in, CH7 News reported.

She said she felt very sad that she allowed a break-in to happen, and the money was supposed to help the newlyweds start their lives together.

“The respectable seniors gave the money to the bride and groom to start their lives. They haven’t even opened the envelopes. I also gave them money. I feel like I’m gonna faint,” Arunee told reporters.

Meanwhile, the couple said the money was actually supposed to pay for the wedding reception and that they still owed money to their vendors.

Don Hua Lor police suspected that the perpetrator knew the family well as they broke in when the couple was not home.
