Bangkok officials are investigating the death of pigeons at the Giant Swing as many Thai netizens assume the birds have been poisoned in the past two weeks, Wantanee Wattana, the director of Health Department of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) reveals recently.
Facebook user Jeab Kanyaphat shared a photo of a drugged pigeon on the Internet last week, and says she has seen more than 30 pigeons lying dead on the ground a week before the photo was taken.
“Today was another day I saw dead birds,” she wrote. “Last week I saw 30 of them lying dead, but I did not figure out why until now. Today I saw five pigeons eating rice and bread crumbs that someone left for them on the ground. I stood there and observed. One of them started to weaken. It tried to fly but couldn’t and suddenly dropped dead with blood running out of its mouth.”
The officials are taking netizens’ suspicions seriously. They ruled out bird flu such as H5N1 because there have not been reports of dead pigeons in other parts of the city. They tested the dead birds and expect the results in two weeks, MThai reported.
