Car seats mandatory in Thailand Sept. 5

Toddlers and young children must be seated in special safety seats or their parents face fines up to THB2,000 starting Sept. 5.

Under amended traffic laws issued Sunday, children under 6 must be strapped into a car seat when traveling on the roads. The changes won’t come into effect for 120 days. More details about the regulations will be issued at a later date by the national police.

Car seats are legally required in more than 170 countries – many of which are developed Western nations – to safely transport small children in cars.
