A Canadian man was found dead yesterday afternoon at his home on Phuket’s Rawai beach. Police have ruled the death a suicide.
Police arrived to find Jon-Eric Barwise, 29, hanging in the bathroom with a nylon rope around his neck.
After rescue volunteers cut him down, police examined the body but found no injuries other than bruises around his neck. The body was, however, taken to Vachira Hospital for further examination.
His Thai girlfriend told police, “I was asleep in the bedroom and woke up to find he had hanged himself in the bathroom.”
After seeing the body and asking her more questions, police said that they had come to the conclusion that the dead man had been “stressed out over a personal issue” and that this had caused him to take his own life.
Just last month a French man was found hung in his hotel room on Koh Tao.
