Animal lovers living in Pattaya have gone to the cops with a complaint after learning that Cambodian construction workers staying in the area have been catching and eating the area’s stray dogs.

As many as 30 pups are missing and presumed to be eaten by the low-wage earning workers who have been poaching the poor animals from a garbage dump in the subdistrict of Huay Yai, where the workers are installed doing a construction project, reported 77Jowo.

The police have said that they did not arrest anyone but warned the workers that they can’t eat the stray dogs as it is against animal cruelty laws.

One Thai animal lover, Orn-anong Capser, 38, used to feed the dogs daily before they became the dinner of the workers. She noted that many of the dogs had been missing lately. She is the one who alerted the police.

Just yesterday, the woman saw one of the missing dogs run out of the workers’ camp with a noose around its neck.

Wipharat Mingkhwan, 64, had also seen the workers chasing after the stray dogs and a few had even asked her about purchasing them as food, she claimed.

She told the men that they could not do that and it was illegal in Thailand.

Once the police were aware of the situation they went to the construction site but were barred from entering since the construction site is run by the army. Instead, they had to simply warn the workers about their behavior.
