Cabinet declares today official holiday for public to mourn for King Bhumibol’s death

Last night’s news of the His Majesty’s passing shook the country and left Thailand with grief. To give people time to mourn, the cabinet has officially declared today as a public holiday.

The government has also announced a one-month suspension of entertainment activities.

Some roads around the city will be closed from 10am as well, according to the Metropolitan Police Bureau. There will be a Royal procession from Siriraj hospital and to the Dusit Throne Hall in the Grand Palace.

Most of the roads that will be closed are in Thon Buri. The procession will start from Siriraj hospital, and into Arun-amarin road. It will cross the Pinklao bridge, turning right in front of Ratchadamnoen Nai and Na Phra Larn roads, turn left into Maharaj road, and enter the Grand Palace through the Thevaphirom gate, reported Thai PBS.
