A Bangkok taxi driver was fined yesterday after he was caught on video calling a couple “ugly” before getting into a fight with them near JJ Green Market.
Cabbie Somsak Saensak was summoned by the Department of Land Transport and fined THB2,000 for being impolite to passengers, following a viral video of, what he considered, a harmless joke gone wrong.
In the video, a female passenger is heard complaining to Somsak that she and her boyfriend had been rejected by a dozen taxi drivers before Somsak accepted them, Post Today reported.
“Well, you’re ugly, so no cab would take you,” the driver said, laughing.
“Why would you say that?” said the boyfriend, in an offended tone.
“He’s just joking. It’s nothing,” the woman said, trying to calm her boyfriend down.
“I’m just joking. You’re angry?” the driver asked.
“Why would you call someone ugly?” the boyfriend said.
“I’m just joking. Just get out then,” the driver said, to which the boyfriend promptly responded, “Fine!” and the pair got out of the car.
Unexpectedly, the cabbie also got out of the car and attacked the couple.
The couple filed a report at Bang Sue Police Station, but the details of the charge were not reported.
