Buakaw to lead global Muay Thai fighters in Ayutthaya ‘Wai Kru’ ceremony

This Friday will be an annual event that Thai boxers and students of Muay Thai around the world look forward to, The World Wai Kru Muay Thai Ceremony.

The ceremony, meant to develop interest in the sport among both Thais and foreigners, will be held in Ayutthaya by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) along with, The Fine Arts Department, Kru Muay Thai Association, Thai Martial Art Institute Association, World Muay Thai Federation, and Professional Boxing Association of Thailand.

The event will be Friday, March 17 at Wat Mahathat, the world famous restored ruin of a Buddhist monastery, and Wat Langka Khao in Ayutthaya.

The event hopes to showcase the uniqueness of the Thai style of boxing and to promote and enhance the knowledge and understanding of the sport for foreigners.

Wai Kru is a ceremony performed by Muay Thai fighters to pay respect and gratitude to their teachers.

In addition to the ceremony, there are activities that include competitions between Thai and foreign boxers, demonstrations by famous Thai boxing camps, sales of products related to Thai boxing, an exhibition of ancient weapons, a demonstration of knife and sword making, a workshop on mystic symbol tattoo making, garland weaving, and inscribed cloth weaving.

There will also be a meet-and-greet for attendees to meet the boxers.

The beloved fighter Buakaw Banchamek will be in attendance and invites Thai boxers from around the world to attend.

Buakaw said, “As a boxer, I feel deeply proud and honored to lead all Thai boxers from around the world in the ceremony.”
