If you live in Bangkok, chances are you’ve noticed the new “To Kheha” sign that’s replaced the usual “To Samrong.”
That’s right, it’s time to rejoice, Samut Prakan dwellers.
The long-awaited BTS Skytrain Green Line’s southern extension, which will stretch all the way to Samut Prakan, will open on Thursday, with commuters credited four months of free rides.
The extension includes nine stations, starting at Samrong to Kheha, which is a large residential as well as commercial area.
The famous Erawan Museum, which boasts an iconic three-headed elephant statue, will also have its own station.
Junta leader/Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha has been invited to inaugurate the extension at 9am on Thursday by commuting from Kheha station — the furthest of the nine new stations on the Samut Prakarn line — into downtown, reported Workpoint.
The extension will open to the general public around noon. What? You thought the PM was gonna share a car with you?
Commuters can travel between the new stations for free until April 16, and for those traveling from any of the nine new stations into downtown, there will be no extra cost.
A representative from the BTS call center told Coconuts this morning that the fare for each station has yet to be determined, however, the maximum fare for the the entire extension will not exceed THB65 (about US$2).
Our normal cynicism aside, kind of a great excuse to explore the provinces neighboring Bangkok for free, eh?
