BTS phone thieves caught red-handed

Two cambodian men were arrested Saturday for stealing smartphones from locals at Mochit BTS station.

Bangsue authorities, who were at the BTS station investigating reports that women were being robbed at Mochit, watched two men approach a female teenager who was listening to music on her smartphone as she was walking up the stairs to the BTS platform.

The thieves stole the phone from her purse and then ran away without the teenager realizing what had happened until it was too late.

The officers gave chase, managing to catch the men who had two stolen smartphones in their possession.

Jitsupa Maneewan, the 17-year-old victim, says she had her earphones in and only noticed her phone had been taken when the music stopped and she searched her purse.

The thieves, Sa-ao and Kin Sokia, both of whom are Cambodian, confessed they would travel to Bangkok on Friday to Sunday and steal from people around Mochit BTS station and JJ Market.

The stolen goods would be sold in Cambodia as they can earn THB5,000 for an iPhone.

Sa-ao says they would usually select women who are not careful with their phones, and Jitsupa was the second victim of the night, Kapook reported.
