Representatives from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) have announced that fares on the BTS extension lines will be THB5 lower than the THB15 standard fares charged throughout the BTS system.
The reduced fares will be available between On Nut and Bearing, and between Taksin and Phetchakasem. The BMA hopes to have the fare reductions written into the BTS’s ticketing software by the beginning of school on May 17.
Deputy Bangkok governor Amorn Kijchawengkul said that this policy was being undertaken in an effort to attract more riders to the BTS system. The light rail line, which currently services 120,000 riders per day, is expected to add another 10,000 with the reduction in fare.
