BTS denies rumor it will change Phrom Phong to Em District

The public relations department of the Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS) yesterday denied the rumor that Phrom Phong BTS station will be changed to Em District to match the new improved Emporium shopping mall.

Responding to the circulating rumor that the name will be changed on Saturday, BTS said that the company has no plans to change Phrom Phong to Em District.

The Em District is a multi-million  project by The Mall Group which aims to improve the area of Khlong Toei with the renovation of the old Emporium along with two new malls nearby: The EmQuartier and The EmSphere.

Fuel was added to the rumor when someone changed the information of Phrom Phong BTS on its wikipedia page.

“The Mall Group together with Bangkok Mass Transit System will improve Phrom Phong BTS station to match the new mall project, the Em District. The announcement to change Phrom Phong to Em District station has been made officially,” the false information on wikipedia said.

BTS executive Anat Apapirom said the company is not aware of the name change. A lot of shopping malls in the past have asked to name a BTS station after them, but the request has always been denied, he said.
